Why a $3 Neewer Mic Gets Better Sound Than a Rode VideoMic Pro

A lot of people leave comments asking about how I get such great sound in my videos. Here's how.
Truth be told. Although I have spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on microphones and audio recording gear, including the popular Rode VideoMic Pro, the microphone I use most is a $3 lapel mic from a company called Neewer.
It's hard to believe but that little $3 microphone gives me the rich sound you hear in almost all my Idea Of The Day videos, mainly because it gives me the flexibility to position the camera anywhere I want, without sacrificing sound.
In a nutshell, I use the $3 Neewer Microphone, plugged into a $99 Zoom H1 Handy Recorder, which is a small digital audio device that stores my audio as a .WAV file on a Micro SD card.
I also use the Rode VideoMic attached to the camera, but since it's so far away, I turn it off from my video editing program. The process is easier than it sounds. Basically, I load the video file, and the audio file into my software, highlight both clips and select "Synchronize Clips" using the right mouse button. Within seconds I get a new clip that has both audio tracks, and I turn off the original (Rode VideoMic Pro) clip.
Although it's an automated process, it's actually pretty easy to do the same thing by hand by visually aligning both the video and audio tracks side by side... nudging the audio as needed until the sound clips line up. To make it easier, just make a bunch of loud claps at the start and you'll see them as spikes in the audio tracks.
