Rediscover Bloom County. It's Back, and It's Better Than Ever!

In 1987, Berkeley Breathed won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. Two years later, he retired.
I have to admit it. For years the only thing I read in the newspaper were the comic strips. Other than a quick glance at the headlines, I barely even flipped the pages. I always went directly to the comics.
I'm a positive guy by nature, so I avoid reading the news because it's almost impossible to find anything positive there... other than the comics.
Although Breathed retired Bloom County, he created a few spin-off strips that ran only on Sundays. By the time his last spin-off strip "Opus" was introduced in 2003, I no longer had a newspaper subscription, but I actually signed up for my local paper specifically so I could read Opus. Five years later, he retired again. Drat.
Although the strip was gone, I followed Berkeley Breathed's Facebook Page and it was pretty quiet. He would post a drawing from time to time, but otherwise it was dormant. Then one day, to my surprise, he started posting new material, including some outrageous artwork featuring Donald Trump (which was removed shortly after)... and a teaser for "Bloom County 2015".
Right now, Bloom County 2015 is an online comic strip. He has no immediate plans to distribute it in traditional newspapers, which means that he has a lot more flexibility in the content and the timing. For him, it means he no longer has to deal with deadlines imposed by the distributors, but more importantly it means that the strip is a lot more timely. Instead of the strip being published weeks or months later, he can release it within hours, so he can react to pop-culture and news events right away. For a strip like Bloom County, that's a big deal.
The easiest way to catch up on Opus, Milo, Binkley, Cutter John, Steve Dallas and of course, Bill The Cat is to Follow Berkeley Breathed's Facebook Page.
