Tech Tip. How to Use Apple's Photo Search

One of the coolest features of Apple's Photos App is the ability to search your Photo Library.
As Photo Libraries get larger and larger, it becomes harder and harder to find specific photos when you're looking for them. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. Thankfully, there's a search option built into Apple's Photos App, but most people have no idea how powerful it is.
All you need to do is tap the search icon to open the search box, then simply type in what you're looking for. Believe it or not, it can find just about anything, and it doesn't matter if you've taken the time to create filenames, albums, or even tag keywords. Most of the time, you can find what you're looking for by using some of the built-in search categories.
Some of the search options are pretty basic, such as dates, months, or years, but what a lot of people don't realize is that they can be as specific or generic as they want. For example, you can ask for a specific date, such as July 4, 2012, or you just say July 4, and see every 4th of July photo, regardless of the year. Or you can ask for just July, and see every photo taken in July, regardless of the date or year. The date search is pretty flexible.
Because your iPhone adds GPS information to each photo, you can type in location information such as the state, county, city or region. So you can ask for photos taken on Main Street, or in Staten Island, or the entire state of NY.
It doesn't stop there, you can even search for things like "Water", or "Waterfalls", and Apple's cloud based Artificial Intelligence software will instantly show you all the photos of waterfalls, even if you never tagged them with a keyword.

Apple's AI is very powerful. Type in something like "Hat", and it will not only show you every photo it found where somebody is wearing a hat, but it can even find things like a "Cowboy Hat". That's amazing. I've searched for things like "Bridges", "Toys", "Cars", "Dogs" and "Cats", and it immediately finds me all the photos with those things in it.
Believe it or not, if you search for something like "Cake", it actually can tell the difference between a Birthday Cake and a Wedding Cake. That's slick!
The list of things you can search for seems virtually unlimited. If you are looking for a photo where you remember wearing a red shirt, just search for "Red", and it will actually find it.
You can make it even more powerful by taking the time to create your own albums, keywords tags and by using the face recognition feature using your Mac, this gives you even more things to search for such as "John Smith", "Haircut", or "broken fence".
