Better Liquid Waste Management

Throwing liquid waste into garbage cans doesn't make sense.

When I was in elementary school, we had a simple routine in our lunchroom for getting rid of our trash. First, we scrapped out our trays into the garbage, next we poured out any remaining milk into a bucket, before throwing out the container. It made sense. Why pour gallons of milk into a plastic bag?

Meanwhile, that's exactly what we do when we throw out our remaining drink at fast food restaurants. Doesn't it make sense that they offer some sort of drain where you can pour out the leftover soft drinks?

My main complaint is that all those liquids eventually leak out of the bags and lead to a smelly mess around the garbage container, not to mention from leaking garbage trucks that leave a trail of goop all arou... [More]

Star Trek is coming back to TV. Unfortunately, it'll cost you $10 per month to see it.

I've been a Star Trek fan since the early 70s, so I was super excited to hear there was a new series in the works. The series will be called "Star Trek Discovery" and it takes place about 10 years before the timeline of the original 1960s series.

It's been a while since Star Trek was on TV, so I was looking forward to the new series until I heard that you need to subscribe to their CBS All-Access service to see it. For what it's worth, I don't mind paying a monthly fee for streaming services. I already pay for Amazon Prime and Netflix, but this is different. Other than Star Trek Discovery, CBS doesn't have ANYTHING I'd be willing to pay for, so it's not worth paying $120 per year for jus... [More]

McChicken Cordon Bleu - McDonald's Mashup

Why is the McDonald's menu so boring? They just need to mix things up a bit!

Ever since McDonald's started serving breakfast all day, I've been thinking of ways they could blend their breakfast ingredients with their dinner and lunch items. The result is a mashup between the McChicken, and the Canadian Bacon on the Egg McMuffin... Toss in a bit of cheese and you get a McChicken Cordon Bleu!

Of course, you can make this yourself by ordering both sandwiches, but why not put it on the menu? They've already got the ingredients.

Burger With a Side Order Of WHAT?

You want fries with that? No Thanks. I'll take a Tums or Rolaids.

This may sound like a joke, but I'm totally serious. I'm one of those people who loves fast-food, but sometimes it's a bit too much for my stomach to handle. Wouldn't it be great if they sold antacids in fast food restaurants?

Instead of asking if you "want fries with that?", why not ask if you'd like a couple of Tums? That would make things a lot easier for me.

How Large is a Large Drink?

It's impossible knowing the real size of drinks in restaurants because they use different cup sizes.

When you order a small drink in a fast food restaurant, do you know how big it will be? If you ask for the same size in another restaurant, you'll probably get an entirely different size than you expected. That's because there aren't any standards for cup sizes in restaurants.

Meanwhile, a lot of people poke fun at Starbucks for having strange names like "Venti" for their drinks, but in reality, the Venti is probably one of the few cases where the name actually means something. Venti is Italian for "Twenty", so a Venti is a 20 ounce drink.

It would be so much easier if you could order your drink by size, in ounces, at any restaurant... instead of ambiguous names like Smal... [More]

McDonald's Italiano

McDonald's already has all the ingredients to make this Italian classic.

When a restaurant like McDonald's already has a wide selection of ingredients, it makes you wonder why they don't try mixing some of them to add entirely new items to the menu.

For example, McDonald's already sells millions of McChicken sandwiches each day, and they sell Mozzarella Sticks, which come with a small container of marinara dipping sauce. You don't have to be a professional chef to see how those three things can be combined to make a a potentially popular new menu item, McChicken Parmesan!

Since McDonald's already has suppliers for all three ingredients, don't you think it would be a good idea to add a McChicken Parmesan to the menu?

Yummy!

McOnion Rings. Onion Rings at McDonald's

Why doesn't McDonald's have Onion Rings on the menu?

Onion Rings are one of the most popular hamburger side dishes in the world. Unfortunately, you can't order them at the world's most popular hamburger restaurants.

That's pretty strange when you think of just how popular they are at Burger King and White Castle, not to mention just about every other diner and restaurant that sells hamburgers. It makes you wonder what they're waiting for?

Where's the Cheese Fries?

Everything tastes better with cheese.

One of the most popular items in restaurants and diners is cheese fries, but for some reason, you rarely see cheese fries in fast food restaurants like McDonald's and Burger King. Isn't that strange? Every fast food restaurant has the ingredients, and there's obviously easy to make; just pour melted cheese over the fries.

It doesn't add up. If there's a definite demand... and they already have the ingredients... and they're easy to put on the menu... Why doesn't Burger King or McDonald's offer them?

How McDonald's Can Improve Their Iced Tea

I only buy McDonald's Iced Tea in the morning, because it tastes horrible at the end of the day!

The most important thing about a fast food chain is product consistency. They spent decades perfecting a system so that when you order something from any McDonald's in the world, it will taste exactly the same as any other McDonald's, with no exceptions.

Unfortunately, because of their efforts to be consistent, this means that no matter which McDonald's restaurant I've been to, whenever I order Iced Tea later in the day, it's NEVER as good as the Iced Tea they serve in the morning. That's because McDonald's doesn't refrigerate their Iced Tea, which makes their Unsweetened Iced Tea exceptionally bitter for the second half of the day.

By contrast, if you order Unsweetened Iced T... [More]

One of the best things about Chipotle Mexican Grill is their large serving sizes. One of the worst things about Chipotle is their large serving sizes.

There's no doubt about it, the serving serving sizes at Chipotle Mexican Grill are generous, to say the least, but sometimes I'm not hungry enough to finish my meal because they only offer one size... LARGE, which means when I'm looking for a light meal, I can't really find anything on the menu that works.

This is a real bummer for me because I LOVE Chipotle, but there are a lot of times I choose another place just because I know their regular size is too big.

Smaller sizes would also be great for kids and people who are counting calories.

Although one of the things that made them popular was their humongous sized bu... [More]

If you ask for a cup of water in a fast food restaurant, you'd better not be thirsty.

More often than not I drink water with my meals, so it drives me crazy that fast food restaurants never give you a decent cup of water. Why can't they simply give you water in the same sized cups as they do soda?

If you ask me, it should be the other way around. Soda isn't very healthful, so it should come in tiny cups.

Mayonnaise on McDonalds Hamburgers?

Isn't it strange that the most popular hamburger chain doesn't offer a burger with mayo?

For many people, a hamburger isn't complete without a touch of mayo on top. After all, it's one of the most popular toppings, yet somehow McDonalds doesn't offer it.

Mayo has always been a part of Burger King's flagship burger, The Whopper, but to this date, McDonalds has never had a single burger that comes with mayonnaise. Of course, some may argue that the "Special Sauce" used on the Big Mac has mayo in it, but they should offer regular mayo as an option on all their burgers.

Cheese Fries at Burger King and McDonalds

LARGE-617

Everyone loves Cheese Fries, but you can't get them at Burger King or McDonalds.

It sounds like a no-brainer to me. If people love cheese... and they love French Fries, you'd think you'd see Cheese Fries on the menu of just about every restaurant that serves fries. They already have the ingredients, so why not combine them?

Wendy's has a history of offering a variety of toppings for their fries, including not only cheese, but chili and other toppings, but Burger King and McDonalds have never offered anything, which is odd, because it's a simple way for them to sell an upgrade using ingredients they already have on hand.

To me the best Cheese Fries are at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Restaurants. I rarely order fries from them any other way.

Big MacChicken

LARGE-610

Everyone loves double burgers, so why not a double McChicken?

In the spirit of the Big Mac, which features two all beef patties, why not create a Big MacChicken that has two chicken patties? To me it's a no-brainer.

Technically, a sandwich like this can go either of two ways. One way is to put together a regular McChicken, except using two pieces of chicken, but the bigger bolder move would be to build the whole thing exactly like a Big Mac, except with chicken. That means two chicken patties, Special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions and a sesame seed bun. A sandwich like that isn't just a bigger McChicken... it's better.

For me, the biggest improvement is the Special Sauce, but the addition of cheese, pickles and onions are also a big deal. Simply stated, if th... [More]

Would you like these with your McChicken?

McDonalds is always looking for new ways to expand their menu. They've added things like Burritos, Mozzarella Sticks, and all sorts of new things, but what they often overlook are ways to expand and improve their menu by giving people more options with the items they already have. For example, the McChicken. It comes exactly one way, with lettuce and mayo. That's it.

I think it's time McDonalds realizes there are other ways to serve their classic chicken sandwich. The most obvious change would be to offer cheese. It's not rocket science. They can offer this simple upgrade and I'm guessing a large percentage of people would buy it if they were asked.

It's been said that one of the smartest things McDonald's found Ray Kroc eve... [More]

Chicken Parmesan At Subway

LARGE-598

Why isn't Chicken Parmesan on the menu at Subway? They already have the ingredients.

Subway is one of my favorite places to eat, mainly because of the variety. By giving people a choice of core ingredients and toppings, there are an almost infinite number of combinations to fit just about every mood. Oddly, although Subway has all the ingredients needed to make a decent Chicken Parm, you won't find it on the menu.

All it takes is a chicken, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. You can easily spot the chicken and cheese, but the tomato sauce isn't as obvious at first glance. It's not listed as a topping because it's part of their meatball sandwich.

All they need to do is use same tomato sauce use with the meatballs to either their sliced or whole chicken breast, add

Kids love McDonalds... and Mac and Cheese.

Many kids are fussy eaters, but one thing you can count on is that just about every kid loves Mac and Cheese. It's clearly one of the most popular foods for kids, which is why even upscale restaurants have Macaroni and Cheese on their Children's Menu.

What I find funny is that you see Mac and Cheese on the menu in so many restaurants specifically because kids love it, yet McDonalds, which bends over backwards to appeal to kids doesn't have it on the menu.

Obviously this would also be a good idea for Burger King or Wendy's, but McDonalds has one additional reason to put it on the menu...

It's a perfect fit for McDonalds on so many levels. It even has "Mac" in the name. They can even double down and call it Mac Mac and Cheese

McChicken + Cheeseburger Together!

Fast food can be boring, so I like to mix things up whenever I get a chance. Some things go together, some things don't. This particular combination is pretty good.

What makes this combination great is not just the unlikely combination of chicken and beef, but the addition of the Cheeseburger's onions, cheese and ketchup to the McChicken's mayo and lettuce. It makes you wonder why McDonalds doesn't offer lettuce and mayo as an option on all their burgers.

Order a McChicken and a Cheeseburger and see for yourself. Since the cheese is generally stuck on the top of the Cheeseburger bun, the easiest way to make one is to pull off the top of the McChicken, and the bottom off the Cheeseburger then put the cheeseburger on top of the McChick... [More]

Eggs Benedict McMuffin

LARGE-563

Here's a simple idea for McDonalds...

If you order Eggs Benedict from a fancy restaurant, and ask them to hold the Hollandaise Sauce, you'll end up with an Egg McMuffin. So why not offer an Egg McMuffin with Hollandaise Sauce? It's already a proven recipe, and it would be a great addition to McDonalds new All Day Breakfast Menu.

Although a traditional Eggs Benedict is made with poached eggs, adding Hollandaise Sauce would be the perfect finishing touch to one of my favorite things at McDonalds.

In fact, why not offer a choice of sauces. Egg McMuffins don't have any sauce. Maybe some people would like Ketchup, or even... Big Mac Sauce!

Two eggs are better than one!

When was the last time you had just one egg for breakfast? If you're like most people, chances are you always make two or more eggs at a time, so when you think about it, wouldn't it be great to have an Egg McMuffin with two eggs? Just call it the Big MacMuffin.

Now that McDonald's has an All Day Breakfast Menu, the idea of a Big MacMuffin makes even more sense, especially for a lunch or dinner sized appetite.

Just think about it... Two eggs, in a three layer muffin, with cheese and Canadian Bacon.

I though about this recently when I ordered two Egg McMuffins and I didn't want two whole muffins. I got rid of one muffin layer and stacked the rest and created the perfect ratio of muffin, egg, cheese and Canadian Bacon. The trick is to kee... [More]

McDonald's Onion Rings

LARGE-549

You know you want them!

If you look at the menu of almost any restaurant that sells hamburgers, you'll find Onion Rings... but you won't find them at McDonalds. Isn't that odd?

Just about every roadside diner, steakhouse or specialty burger place has them, so you have to wonder why McDonalds still doesn't carry them. It's not like they're particularly hard to make. All they need is a deep fryer, and they have plenty of them.

I had a theory for a while that they were holding back because they didn't want the taste of the onions getting into the fries, but that never stopped them from frying chicken, fish and mozzarella sticks. Besides, Burger King's been selling them for decades and I've never tasted onion in their fries, chicken, or french toast sticks.

All Day BURGER Menu at McDonald's

LARGE-516

Now that you can get breakfast all day... why set limits on burgers?

So far, it looks like McDonald's All Day Breakfast Menu is a big hit, which is no surprise, because people have been asking for it for years. I can't count the number of times I've walked into a McDonald's hoping to get an Egg McMuffin, only to be told they are no longer serving breakfast. Let's face it, when your taste buds are expecting breakfast, it's not easy ordering a burger instead.

Eliminating the time restriction makes a lot of sense, especially for people who work late shifts. For them, breakfast starts about 6pm, but the main idea is that you should be able to order eggs any time of the day.

If you think the All Day Breakfast Menu is freedom, try asking for a burger at 10am.

Big Mac Special Sauce Packets

LARGE-510

Why limit Special Sauce to just Big Macs?

When I think of McDonald's, I think Big Mac, mainly because I love the taste of their Special Sauce.

Although they have a ton of items on the menu, the only item that has their signature Special Sauce is the Big Mac, which is a shame. I would love to use Special Sauce on so many other items, including Fries, Chicken Selects and Chicken McNuggets. In fact, I would love to put it on just about everything on the menu. Just imagine dipping a Hash Brown in it.

When you think about it, since Big Mac Special Sauce is their version of Thousand Island Dressing, doesn't it make sense that they at least offer it as a salad dressing? How obvious is that?

McSliders. A "Mac Mini"

LARGE-506

There's something special about a mini burger.

Like most people, the first time I had a "Slider" was at White Castle. My friend suggested I order 6 of them and I thought he was crazy, but then I realized how small they are. You can eat one in two or three bites. Before you know it, you've had a whole bunch and you're ready for more.

Over the past few years, I've started to see sliders everywhere. They're in big and small restaurants, and even some large chains like Ruby Tuesdays, but the biggest burger restaurants in the world like McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King haven't jumped in on the bandwagon yet. A McSlider would be half the diameter of their regular burger, perfect for snacking or eating in bunches.

Remember the Mac Jr.?

Sometimes I need to eat while I'm driving, and that makes it hard to eat certain foods, like the Big Mac. As much as I love them, it's pretty hard eating them with one hand. I love the taste, especially of the Special Sauce, but everything falls all over the place.

That's why I was excited when they introduced the Mac Junior in the early 90s. Everything you love about the Big Mac, except it was just one patty, instead of two. The only problem was that, it was for a limited time.

Like the McRib, the Mac Jr. resurfaces from time to time, and they even offered a Mac Snack Wrap that had the same ingredients, but once again, by the time you realize they're offering it, it's gone.

Don't you just love Sweet Potato Fries? They're sweet. They're salty. They're simply delicious! So, why are they so hard to find?

Sweet Potato Fries are popping up everywhere. You'll find them in some restaurants, but they're not quite mainstream right now. That's why I think this is the perfect time for a big restaurant chain like McDonald's to put them on the menu, so they can reach an even bigger audience.

I'm sure they would be a big hit at McDonald's, especially if they offered a variety of dipping sauces, including Marshmallow Fluff and HotCake Syrup. YUM!

Leftover Drink Sink

LARGE-450

Why don't fast food restaurants have someplace to pour out leftover drinks?

When I went to elementary school, there was an area in the cafeteria where students were expected to bring their garbage. What stood out was that they had a stainless steel bucket next to the garbage where we were expected to pour out our leftover milk so it wouldn't go into the regular garbage.

After I graduated and went to middle school, I was shocked to see they didn't have anywhere to pour out leftover drinks. The idea that we were to put containers of liquid into a garbage pail didn't make sense at all. Meanwhile, that's exactly what every fast food restaurant expects you to do.

Putting all those liquids into regular garbage bags is pretty stupid. It not makes the garbage heavier, and it

If you're going into the burger business, shouldn't you make more than one kind of burger?

Turkey burgers and veggie burgers are popular right now, so you can order one in just about any restaurant... except for fast food burger places. Isn't that odd? They're burger places, aren't they? So why only one kind of burger patty?

I"m not suggesting that they remove beef from the menu. I'm simply suggesting that by adding turkey and veggie burgers to the menu, they are guaranteed to get customers who don't eat beef. To me, that's an untapped market.

I give kudos to Burger King, for being the first to offer a Veggie Burger, but they should consider turkey too. Ruby Tuesdays and Red Robin may not be fast food... but they offer every possible type of burger you can imagine, in... [More]

Do you remember the first time you ordered a sandwich at Subway?

I can remember it like it was yesterday. There was only one Subway restaurant in town, and it was pretty far from my house, but somebody said I should try it.

I asked for a BMT, then they asked me what kind of bread I wanted. That surprised me. Next, they pointed to all the trays of goodies and asked me what I wanted on it.

I was a bit timid at first.I wasn't used to the idea of fast food being prepared right at the counter, but within a couple of minutes, they built a sandwich that was not only fresh, but uniquely mine. It had lettuce, tomato, pickles, black olives, sweet peppers, and gobs of mayo.

Have it your way?

We all remember Burger King's jingle... "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us. All we ask that you let us serve you your way... Have it your way."

It was a huge success for Burger King back in the 70s. It meant that whenever you ordered your burger, you could ask them to subtract anything you didn't like. What could be better than that?

Being able to SUBTRACT whatever you wanted was great... Then one day I ordered a burger at Fuddruckers and it didn't have ANYTHING on it. Nothing. I love White Castles. Sometimes too much.

Call them what you want... Belly Bombers, Sliders... or simply White Castles, the fact is sometimes overindulgence in these wonderful little burgers can do some interesting things to your digestion.

For me, depending on how many I eat, and the exact combination of milkshakes and / or onion rings, I can almost predict to the minute how long until I can expect a reaction from deep inside.

Since you can almost predict a certain reaction, it stands to reason that there may be times when you turn down the opportunity to enjoy them, simply because you aren't prepared for the potential consequences, so for that reason alone, it makes sense for fast food restaurants to offer antacids as a side dish option.

Pastrami on Rye? Not at Subway.

If you walk into a delicatessen in New York City and order a Pastrami sandwich, you can almost guarantee it'll not only come with Rye bread, but there's a good chance you'll get a few extra slices on the side. Maybe it's just a New York thing, but I couldn't even imagine getting a Pastrami sandwich any other way.

So, when Subway added Pastrami to the menu, I was excited. At the first opportunity, I walked in and asked for their Pastrami Melt. They guy behind the counter asked... "What kind of bread do you want?" Hmm... nobody ever asked me that before, but I answered, "Rye". "Sorry, we don't have Rye."

When you order a drink in a fast food restaurant, you never know how big the drink will be. Isn't that stupid?

Have you noticed that drink sizes in fast food restaurants are completely arbitrary?

Every restaurant has their own definition of drink sizes. A Small in one restaurant could be the same as the Large at another. To make matters worse, some restaurants like to use their own names.

Today they have names like:

Child Size
Extra Small
Small
Medium
Regular
Large
Extra Large
Biggie
King Size
Short
Tall
Grande
Venti
Gulp
Big Gulp
Super Big Gulp

So is a Biggie at Wendy's bigger than a Large at Burger King?

Starbucks Venti is actually the only one that makes sense, because it means 20 (ounces). The rest are arbitrary names.
