Ideas For Better Car Batteries

Car batteries need to move into the 21st century.

We have seen major changes to just about every part of today's cars. One thing that hasn't changed, is the battery. They still have the same outdated metal terminals, and they're harder than ever to jump-start when you get stuck. Isn't it time we see some change?

It's hard enough jump starting your battery when they're jammed into hard to reach areas, but to make matters worse, they still have outdated terminals, which is nearly impossible to secure your jumper cables. If car makers are going to place the battery in a hard to reach area, they should at least give you a dedicated place somewhere else to attach your terminals.

Local Attached, External Cloud Backup Invention

I love cloud backup, but it's slow and takes up too many resources.

There are countless advantages to using a cloud backup service, however, speed isn't one of them. Cloud backups are notoriously slow, in some cases taking weeks or even months to make the initial backup. Conversely, local backups take only a matter of minutes. Here's an idea for an invention that gives you the advantages of both.

My idea is a to combine the two into a single, external drive. When the drive is connected, you can use it like any other hard drive, as either primary storage, or as a backup. In either case, the drive would be blazing fast.

Dash-Cam With a Tattle Tale Button!

Wouldn't it be great if you could hit a button on your dash-cam whenever you see somebody doing something unsafe?

There are a lot of unsafe drivers out there. Whenever I see somebody doing something unsafe, the first thing that comes to my mind is hoping a police officer saw it too. That's where today's idea of the day comes from.

I'd love to see a dash cam that could automatically send the last minute of footage to the police, so they'll have evidence of unsafe drivers. All you'd have to do is hit the button within a minute or so of the incident. Ideally, if the system was anonymous, everyone would be willing to use it whenever you see something wrong. Chopsticks Forks!

If you love eating Chinese food with bamboo chopsticks, you'll love this invention.

Just about every authentic Chinese restaurant serves their food with bamboo chopsticks. Most of the time, the sticks are fused together at the top, so you have to pull them apart before you can use them. That's the inspiration for today's idea.

As I sat in a restaurant a while ago pulling my chopsticks apart, it occurred to me that if they bevelled the top, and made slits, the fused end would make a pretty good bamboo fork. This would be perfect for people who have trouble with chopsticks, without the restaurant needing to give out additional silverware.

The Amazon Echo is one of my favorite gadgets, but it's lacking one feature that would make it even better, the ability to echo back what you say to it.

I originally posted this idea at least a year before I stated posting videos and it was one of my most popular topics. The essence of the idea is simple, in addition to all the cool things the Amazon Echo can do, I think the Amazon Echo could open the door to an entirely new service... a Personal Voice Database in the cloud.

Here's how it would work. You say something to Alexa like "Alexa, Frank's wife's name is Gladys", and at a later date, you can ask "Alexa, what's Frank's Wife's name?" and it would respond with your original voice message telling you the date.

Amazon Echo Intercom and Calling

Wouldn't it be great to use your Amazon Echo to make calls?

When you break it down, the Amazon Echo has 3 basic components, a microphone, speaker, and Internet connection. To me, that's all you need to use the Echo as a communication device.

The simplest form of communication would be from Echo to Echo, right in the same house, as an intercom system, so you can reach any room in the house by simply asking Alexa to connect you to another room. Taken one step further, you could use it to turn on the microphone in a baby's bedroom, so you can use it as a baby monitor.

Naturally this leads to yet an even bigger step. If you could connect from room to room, why not connect you to another Echo, or even another phone anywhere around the world?

Great speaker systems should have sound sensors to automatically calibrate them for your room.

You just spent over $500 on a new home theater system, but somehow it doesn't quite sound the way it should. It's not your fault. You followed all the instructions... You took it out of the box, ran a few wires, plugged in the speakers, then turned it on. What more can you do?

The real problem is that the manufacturers failed to compensate for the unique characteristics of YOUR room. Every room is different. Large rooms sound different from smaller ones. Just about every plunger on the market today is round, but the drains in most toilets aren't centered in the bowl, so the plunger doesn't make a good seal on all sides.

The simple solution is for toilet manufacturers to include a plunger that fits the exact shape of each model and include it in the box when you buy it.

Because each plunger would be form fitted for the unique position of the drain, all your plunging troubles will literally go down the drain.

TV Remotes should have Radio Buttons to jump directly to your favorite channels.

It's impossible to keep track of all your favorite TV channels these days because there are literally thousands of channels. Wouldn't it be great if you could assign each of your favorite channels to a simple one-button "Radio Button", just like in your car?

Setting it up would be just like on your car radio. First, you go to your channel the old fashioned way, then hold down one of your favorites button until it locks it in. After that, a quick tap will take you directly to the same channel.

One of the most common places to get sunburn is on your nose.

This invention is a way to prevent sunburn on your nose using a simple cover that connects directly to your sunglasses. To me, it's a lot easier and cleaner than Zinc Oxide and it doesn't run out. All you need to do is simply put on your sunglasses and you're instantly protected from the sun.

It's one of those ideas that seems so simple, you wonder why you never see it.

I hate forgetting where I put things.

The more I use Siri, the more love it. When I'm out and about, I constantly tell it to remind me of appointments, notes and my to-do lists. I think another thing it should track is... stuff. More specifically, I think the iPhone should have a personal inventory feature that lets you track the people, places and things in our daily lives. For any given item, we should be able to describe various attributes, and the most important feature is where we put it.

It's time for Spring Cleaning. For many of us, that means moving your stuff around to make room for new stuff. In my case, that means there's a pretty good chance I'll forget where I put whatever I move.
